Crises

Positions

Positions are the business functions of your organization (Manager, Security officer, ...). They determine who carries out the actions of a crisis, and to whom they are escalated.

Positions are business titles defined by your organization: for example Manager, Team lead or Security officer. They are distinct from technical roles (Owner, Responder, Stakeholder), which define access rights to Astry.

Positions are used during crises: each action of a crisis can be entrusted to a position, and the member of the crisis team holding this position is then in charge of the action and alerted about it.

Defining positions

Positions are managed from the main Organization tab, then Positions. Each position has a name and a description (optional). Only Owners can manage positions.

Positions are then assigned to members within each team, from the team's Members page (Edit positions button). A member can hold several positions in the same team, and hold different positions from one team to another.

Escalation between positions

A position can be configured with an escalation: during a crisis, if an action assigned to this position is not marked as completed within the given delay (from 5 minutes to 7 days), it is automatically re-assigned to another position. For example, an action not completed by the Team lead after 30 minutes can be re-assigned to the Manager.

To avoid loops, a position cannot escalate to a position that already leads to it (directly or through another position).

The Hierarchy view of the positions page displays, as a graph, all the escalation chains between positions. Escalations performed during a crisis are recorded in the history of the action concerned.
